We are GOwanus

Gowanus is an experimental rock quartet that has its origins in the neighborhood surrounding the toxic Brooklyn waterway that shares its name. The group uses traditional analog instrumentation in combination with digital effects and sampling to create a unique sound that infuses elements of jam-based improvisation, electro-funk and straight up the middle, American rock 'n roll.
Originally formed as a trio with Duke Kurick (guitar), Alan Maginn (keys, bass and vocals) and Tom Murphy (drums), the group released its debut album, And To the Lost, in February 2012. At the end of 2013, Gowanus welcomed long-time collaborator, Matt Domser (bass), to the group, allowing Alan to move over to keyboards and electronics full time. In the spring of 2014, Murphy left the band to pursue other endeavors and Brandon McClaskey (drums) took over percussion duties.

Gowanus provides a one-two-three punch that forms the meatiest portion of the album. After conditioning the listener for long instrumentals, “Probably Not,” a fist-pumping anti-love rock ballad, is literally the piece of rock holding the albums’ more adventurous tracks together. “Blank” is another longer instrumental that takes another surprising turn, from a straight-ahead rocker to a closing section that sounds like the music from a super-secret level from Super Mario Brothers.
